The Tried Soul

Rev. Esget over at Esgetology just made a wonderful post on depression. I would urge you to go read it. His comment about not viewing depression as a moral failure is right on. So often depression is seen as fundamentally a faith issue. I just don’t buy it. There are biological factors, physiological factors, and yes, spiritual factors. But we do a great disservice to those in need by making this all about the Law and unbelief.

  1. Lately, my thoughts concerning depression are: Somebody has to do it……be depressed from time to time, that is. Its part of the “lay of the land” of humanity. The earth is not flat and level. There are high elevations and low elevations. The water gravitates to the low places……likewise, the spirit flows into depressions.

Don’t you ever feel like you as a depressed person just plain “feel” more than other people. Not that its anything great or a desirable state. To “feel” so deeply can be a burden, but its simply a fact of life that someone is going to end up doing it. We need to learn to adjust to our depressiveness and live with it.
